GAMEPLAY BUILD A CIVILIZATION
In the mysterious Everdell valley, a civilization of diverse forest creatures is gradually taking shape and the weather and crops are also changing. At the start of the game, each player receives two personal assistants, along with a number of random cards.

How each turn proceeds: Players can place workers, assistants somewhere to support themselves, prepare for the next crop or use a card from the player’s hand or from the common area called the “field”.
There are a few fixed worker slots in each level, these allow players to collect more resources, cards or points, but sometimes there are four areas that change from game to game. Some slots allow multiple workers at once, but most only allow one player to occupy the area.
Once a player has placed all their workers, they can call their workers and helpers back and prepare for the next crop, reopening those slots. The first and second times they do this, they get an extra worker for the next crop, but the third and final time they get two. There are also bonuses for moving to a new crop, in spring and autumn players activate all their production cards, generating resources and other features. In summer they can draw extra cards, either from the deck or from the field, which is uncommon, as players usually have to draw from the deck.
The noticeable effect of the transition between seasons is that workers are placed on and taken off the board at different times. There is no requirement that players be in the same season, and it is entirely possible or even common for players to end the game at very different times.
THE CARDS THAT DETERMINE POWER
Unlike what most players think of as the game being mainly about placing workers and helpers, and occasionally changing the season, the real appeal of the game lies in the cards that represent the creatures and structures that make up the jungle civilization. Each card has a cost, although players can also get free cards by building prerequisite structures. Players are limited to eight cards in their hand, and with a few exceptions, their civilization is limited to 15 cards in play. Therefore, players must carefully choose which cards to keep and which to play. Some slots allow players to discard cards for resources or points.
There are five main types of cards in the game:
- Traveler cards: Activated only once, providing a unique benefit to the player
- Production cards: Activated when the player uses it during a certain crop
- Destination cards: These cards provide additional slots for workers and assistants in addition to the slots already provided.
- Governance cards: Provide special powers that change the way the game is played.
- Prosperity cards: These cards will provide bonus points at the end of the game.
